Who we are

A small shop built for long days by the water

Golden Seabird began with a simple frustration: the beach bags that looked good fell apart by the second summer, and the ones that lasted looked like gym kit. We set out to fix that, one honest product at a time.

Where it started

From a market stall in Tsukishima to your doorstep

We opened in 2019 as a weekend stall near the Sumida River, selling woven totes we commissioned from a handful of workshops we had come to trust. Shoppers kept asking the same thing — where can we buy these when the stall is packed up? The answer became an online store, stocked only with things we would carry to the shore ourselves.

Today we ship across Japan and beyond, but the ground rule has not moved. If it would not survive a wet afternoon, a sandy bag and a crowded train home, it does not earn a place on the shelf.

How we choose

Fewer things, chosen slowly

We do not carry hundreds of items, and we never will. Every collection is a short list — a bag, a hat, a towel, a few useful extras — picked because each one does its job well and because they work together on an actual beach day. When something new comes in, something older usually leaves.

The makers behind the goods

Partners, not suppliers

Most of what we sell comes from small, family-run manufacturers along the coast and in the hills behind it. We visit them, we pay them fairly, and we plan our seasons together so no one is left over-producing when the summer ends. These relationships are the quiet reason our range stays small: good makers can only make so much, and we would rather keep the quality than chase the volume.

Made for the season

Built around when you actually go

Beach goods are seasonal, and pretending otherwise helps no one. Our collections land ahead of summer, our shipping speeds up when demand peaks, and our bundles are put together for the trips people take between June and September — the family weekend, the resort escape, the last-minute day trip when the forecast finally cooperates.

Working with resorts

Gift packaging for coastal stays

A growing part of what we do is gift sets for coastal resorts and guesthouses — a bag and towel waiting in the room, wrapped in our own packaging and ready for the beach. It suits us because it is still the same honest product, just arriving a different way, and it keeps our makers busy outside the retail rush.

What we hold ourselves to

Plain promises we can keep

We answer every message, we are honest when something is out of stock, and we would rather lose a sale than send you something that will not last. If a product disappoints, we want to hear it, because a short range only works when every item earns its spot. That is the whole business, and we intend to keep it that simple.
